At the Mosque-Cathedral, the guide sets the historical scene from the arrival of the Umayyads in 711, through the emirate and the caliphate up to Abd al-Rahman III in 929, and how that shift in power connects with projects such as Medina Azahara. From there the building is explained by construction phases, starting with the original mosque of Abd al-Rahman I and its architecture, with references to the reuse of columns and capitals, the system of arches and the orientation of the qibla wall, as well as the remains linked to the basilica of Saint Vincent Martyr.
The route continues with the extension by Abd al-Rahman II, which introduces the maqsura and the growth of the city, and moves on to the extension by Al-Hakam II, the most striking stretch for its artistic development, the skylight and the mihrab, where inscriptions and decorative details are explained, including the tesserae sent by the emperor Nikephoros Phokas. The visit then links to the Christian period after 1236 and to the building of the cathedral transept between 1523 and 1603, pointing out pieces such as the choir stalls and the main altarpiece.
After the Mosque, the tour continues at the Alcazar of the Christian Monarchs, understood as a seat of power since Roman times and used continuously through different periods. Here the guide sets out Roman Cordoba as Colonia Patricia Corduba and highlights pieces such as the 3rd-century Roman sarcophagus in Carrara marble, before walking through the main spaces: the Tower of the Lions, the Hall of the Mosaics, the Moorish Courtyard and the Mudejar Royal Baths.
The tour ends in the Alcazar gardens, with their terraced layout and pools, rounded off with the historical background of their role under the Catholic Monarchs and their later use by the Spanish Inquisition, which explains how the complex changed over time.

The tour is accessible at the Mosque-Cathedral. At the Alcazar accessibility is partial: the monument cannot be covered in full in a wheelchair. Pushchairs are allowed, though they are more awkward at the Alcazar.
Please include children under 3 in your booking even though they are free, so we have the total number of participants. Pets are not allowed under the monuments' rules.
The limit is 30 people per group, although this may vary by season and the group is often no larger than 15 participants.
You can cancel your booking with a 100% refund up to 24 hours before the tour starts. If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance, the refund is 40%. No refund is given for no-shows without notice.
The tour runs as normal unless the Mosque-Cathedral or the Alcazar issue a closure notice due to bad weather or force majeure. If that happens, we offer a date change or a full refund.
Yes, tickets to both monuments are included in the tour price. We arrange them in advance so you do not have to queue at the ticket office or worry about sold-out slots.
At the Mosque-Cathedral, no: under the Chapter's rules, groups must enter and leave with their guide. At the Alcazar, yes — you can stay in the gardens as long as you like once the guided tour finishes.
Pushchairs are allowed into the Mosque, although we recommend a baby carrier because some areas between the columns are narrow; at the Alcazar you will need to leave it at the entrance because of the stairs along the route. In a wheelchair, the Mosque is accessible for more than 95% of the route; the Alcazar has stairs in the towers, halls and interior areas, so you would only be able to see the gardens and part of the courtyard.
Yes. At the Mosque-Cathedral you must dress respectfully as it is a working place of worship: shoulders covered (no vest tops), skirts and trousers below the knee, and no caps or hats inside. The Chapter may refuse entry if it considers the clothing disrespectful.
No, the rules of both monuments do not allow pets. Certified guide dogs are allowed, as long as you let us know when booking.
Tickets to the Fernandine Churches are requested directly from the guide during the tour, and the guide will tell you how to use them.
Entry times to the monuments are fixed. If you arrive after the group has gone in, we cannot guarantee access, so we recommend getting to the meeting point 10 minutes early.
