This free tour of Córdoba is an introductory, panoramic route through the historic centre, designed so you understand the city before going into any monument. The tour begins in Plaza de las Tendillas, where the guide organises the group and sets out the origin of Córdoba from its pre-Roman stage to its consolidation as a Roman city under the name Corduba, explaining how this same spot is still the centre of the city more than two thousand years later.

From there you head into the historic centre to interpret Andalusi urban planning, the narrow alleys and the irregular layout that characterise the Jewish Quarter. Along the way the guide places in context the Umayyad arrival in 711, the creation of the independent emirate under Abd al-Rahman I in 756 and the proclamation of the caliphate by Abd al-Rahman III in 929, so you understand why Córdoba became one of the great political and cultural centres of western Europe.
