Christmas in Córdoba

Christmas in Córdoba runs from late November to the first days of January, with the street lights, a Christmas market in the centre, dozens of decorated patios that open their doors and nativity scenes spread across the city. The City Council coordinates the whole programme under the name "Córdoba es Navidad".

This article covers what to see during Christmas in Córdoba, when its main events are usually held and what to bear in mind to visit them, since the specific dates of each edition are confirmed every year through the official website.

What Christmas in Córdoba is

"Córdoba es Navidad" is the municipal programme that brings together all the city's Christmas activity: lights, market, workshops, zambombas, nativity scenes, concerts and the decorated patios. In its last full edition, 2025-2026, the programme ran from 21 November 2025 to 8 January 2026, with more than 400 activities for all audiences.

One of the threads connecting Christmas in Córdoba with the rest of the year is the Patios Festival of Córdoba, declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO for its May edition. In December, many of those same patios open their doors again, this time decorated with Christmas motifs instead of flowering pots, with flamenco carols and musical performances included.

What to see at Christmas in Córdoba

Among all the Christmas programme, these are the events not to miss.

1. The lights on Calle Cruz Conde

The Christmas switch-on is concentrated every year on Calle Cruz Conde, where a light and sound show is staged and repeated several times each evening. In the 2025 edition the switch-on was on 2 December at 18:30, and the show ran five times a day, at 18:30, 19:00, 19:30, 20:00 and 20:30.

2. The Christmas Market in Plaza de las Tendillas

In the city's most central square a market is set up every year with more than 20 stalls of crafts, nativity figures, sweets and Christmas products, as well as an ice rink. In the 2025 edition it was open from 8 November.

3. The patios decorated for Christmas

The Patios Festival of Córdoba at Christmas brings together every December several dozen patios open to the public, with free entry. In the 2025 edition 50 patios took part, from 5 to 28 December, combining Christmas decoration with flamenco carols and other musical performances.

4. The city's nativity scenes

The Municipal Nativity Scene is set up in the Oratory of San Felipe Neri; in the 2025-2026 edition it could be visited from 2 December to 5 January, from 11:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00, closed on 25 December and 1 January. Added to this is the Cajasol Foundation Nativity Scene, staged in settings such as the Calleja de las Flores, the surroundings of the Mosque-Cathedral and several Cordoban patios, also with free access.

When Christmas is celebrated in Córdoba

There is no fixed date: the Christmas calendar is published every year through cordobaesnavidad.es and Córdoba Tourism, usually during November. As a reference, the 2025-2026 season began on 21 November 2025 and closed on 8 January 2026, with the switching-on of the lights in the first days of December and the patios open for much of the month.

As it is a programme renewed every year, the specific dates of each new edition are best checked closer to the time on the official website, as they may vary by a few days from the previous year's calendar.

Tips for enjoying Christmas in Córdoba

Most activities are free: the lights, a stroll around the market, the municipal nativity scenes and entry to the decorated patios require no ticket or booking.

The Cruz Conde light and sound show draws big crowds at every showing, so it is worth arriving a few minutes early to find a good spot.

December in Córdoba can bring rain, so an umbrella or raincoat is a good idea if you are doing the patios route on foot.

The Christmas patios are usually concentrated in several neighbourhoods of the centre; it is worth planning the route with the official list to hand so as not to miss any of those open that day.

Christmas in Córdoba is enjoyed on foot, with no need to buy anything: the lights, the market, the patios and the nativity scenes sit within a short radius in the heart of the historic centre and can all be covered in a single visit, following the official programme published each season.
