C3A, Andalusian Centre for Contemporary Creation
Written by official guides

The C3A (Centro de Creación Contemporánea de Andalucía) is a space devoted to contemporary artistic production and creation, in the Campo de la Verdad district, on the south bank of the Guadalquivir. Unlike the museums of the historic centre, there is no permanent collection here: the C3A combines exhibition rooms with creation workshops, audiovisual laboratories and a documentation centre open to the public.
In this article we cover what the C3A is, its most interesting spaces, the opening hours and ticket price, and how to get there from the historic centre.
What the C3A is
The C3A was born from an international architecture competition won by Fuensanta Nieto and Enrique Sobejano. Works began on 9 September 2008 and the building was inaugurated on 19 December 2016, with the then president of the Andalusian Regional Government, Susana Díaz.
The building has 12,207 m² spread over four floors, including basement and roof, with a media façade facing the river capable of projecting images through lighting and video systems. The centre depends on the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Culture and Sport and programmes exhibitions, artistic residencies, workshops and activities in visual and performing arts, dance and contemporary circus.
What to see at the C3A
As it has no fixed collection, the visit is defined by its spaces:
1. The media façade
Facing the Guadalquivir, it can project images through lighting and video systems, and has become the most recognisable image of the building.
2. The exhibition rooms
Temporary exhibitions are spread between rooms T2, T3, the Atrium and the Media Library, with a programme that changes several times a year.
3. The Black Box
It is the centre's space devoted to live arts, dance and contemporary circus, within the C3A's creation spaces.
4. The documentation centre
Specialising in contemporary creation, it is open to the public for consultation.
C3A opening hours and prices
The C3A opens Tuesday to Saturday from 11:00 to 20:00, and Sundays and public holidays from 11:00 to 15:00. Closed on Mondays. Entry is free.
How to get to the C3A
The C3A is on Calle Carmen Olmedo Checa, s/n, in the Campo de la Verdad, on the south bank of the Guadalquivir. You can walk there across the Roman Bridge from the Mosque-Cathedral area, or take buses 3 and 12 to the Puerta del Puente stop, next to the bridge. There is also parking next to the centre.
The walk to the C3A across the Roman Bridge lets you combine the visit with the rest of the historic centre and with the river from the Campo de la Verdad bank, an area still little frequented by the tourists who throng the Mosque-Cathedral or the Jewish Quarter.
