Casa Andalusí of Córdoba

The Casa Andalusí is a house museum in the very heart of the Jewish Quarter of Córdoba, on Calle Judíos, next to the Synagogue. The building recreates the atmosphere of a 12th-century home, in the period of greatest splendour of the Caliphate, with rooms devoted to everyday Andalusi life, a coin collection and the Paper Museum.

This article covers the history of the house, what can be seen inside, the opening hours and ticket price, and how to get there from the nearby sights of the Jewish Quarter.

History of the Casa Andalusí

The Casa Andalusí occupies a building that recreates a 12th-century home, set against the wall walk of the city's old wall, in the centre of the Jewish Quarter and next to the Synagogue of Córdoba.

The house opened as a private museum in 1997, after a restoration that recovered its structure to reproduce the typical model of an al-Andalus home. The project aims to bring visitors closer to the domestic and cultural atmosphere of Andalusi Córdoba, in the centuries of coexistence between Muslims, Jews and Christians in the city.

What to see in the Casa Andalusí

The route combines rooms that reproduce everyday Andalusi life with original historical pieces found on the site itself.

1. The courtyard

The central courtyard, with a fountain and plants, is the highlight of the house and recreates the role of water in the Andalusi home.

2. The collection of al-Andalus coins

At the entrance to the house a collection of coins from the Andalusi period is displayed, minted in gold, silver and bronze.

3. The Paper Museum

The Casa Andalusí houses the Paper Museum, devoted to the process of paper-making in the Caliphate of Córdoba, with a model of the first paper-making machines to reach the West.

4. The Mosaic Room

In the basement of the house, the Mosaic Room keeps a Roman mosaic, together with a well and a Visigothic relief found in the same space, evidence that the site was already occupied centuries before the Andalusi period.

Opening hours and prices of the Casa Andalusí

The Casa Andalusí opens every day, from 10:00 to 20:00. The ticket costs €4 for adults.

How to get to the Casa Andalusí

The Casa Andalusí is at number 12, Calle Judíos, in the heart of the Jewish Quarter of Córdoba, right next to the Synagogue. It is a short walk from the Mosque-Cathedral, within the network of cobbled streets of the Jewish quarter, in the heart of the city's historic centre.

The Jewish Quarter concentrates many of the cultural attractions of central Córdoba. Near the Casa Andalusí you can visit the Synagogue and the other house museums of the Jewish quarter, as well as the Mosque-Cathedral, which lets you combine several visits on a single walking route through the historic centre.
